We caught up with Francis Whittington to talk about his latest achievements
I was thrilled to be crowned the British Novice Champion at Gatcombe with “Evento” owned by Sarah Arrowsmith. He did a great dressage test but we had an unfortunate rail down during showjumping and then cross country he travelled and jumped well but frustratingly I ended up with two time faults. I was disappointed until I realised no one else was making the time at all! As a result we ended up winning – albeit by a small margin but I was delighted."Evento" joined the team this year. He is a talented horse that has quickly stepped up to Novice and is a very exciting addition. He’s fed on Saracen Re-Leave and Show Improver Pencils.
I also came third at the International Hartpury Horse Trials CCI* on “Excellent R” owned by Robert Batcheller and Maureen Rawson with a score of 45.8. “Excellent R” is almost 7 years old so he’s quite inexperienced. This was his first time and he performed very nicely! He had a very positive clear cross country where he jumped round and finished clear inside the time, but dropped down at showjumping because he was a bit tired. He has great potential for future, im very excited about him. He’s fed on Saracen Recoup 11 and Stamm 30.
What are you looking forward to for the rest of 2016?
Consolidating with the horses I have at the moment. Although it seems a way off, 2017 will come by very quickly and we need to make plans now for qualifications for the season. So really the end of this season is about preparation for the next.
