Oakleigh Temple – First Time Cross Country Training
Danny (Oakleigh Temple) is the first horse we have bred from my yard. He is now 5yrs old and we are looking to take him to his first event in the following months.
We took Danny for his first taste of cross country training recently so he could experience the type of jumps he would come across at an event. He took everything all in his stride, and wasn’t really phased by any of the jumps or water complexes.
Thank you to Juliet Cottey for helping me start off and train Danny, and also with all the young horses that I have had the pleasure in backing and producing.
Lots of exciting times ahead with this stunning horse and we are excited to see what can be achieved.
Brightling Park International Horse Trials - CIC 1*
We had a great weekend at Brightling Park International Horse Trials. Both horses Casper (Ghost Town GT)
and Mitch (HollyPark Royale) were in the CIC* and did their dressage on the Saturday.
Casper did a very sweet and obedient test, but unfortunately a couple of little mistakes (breaking in his medium trot) were quite costly to his score of 58.9. I was, however, over the moon with his attitude in the arena.
Mitch did his best test to date. He was super relaxed and really ridable. It was pleasing to have this shown in his score of 42.6, a 15% improvement from our CCI test last year. I can't thank Adam Smyth enough for all his help on the flat over the last few months. I am seeing such an improvement in the horses attitude and way of going, and it's showing in our marks.
Sunday was showjumping and cross country and unfortunately the atmosphere got to Casper a little.
He goes a bit into himself and it comes out in an argumentative way. He rolled a couple of silly poles showjumping (the course was causing a few problems with other riders as well), and unfortunately a little blip at the first water cross country. We ended up just taking our time and he ended up finishing well. Overall the weekend was such a good experience for him and a lot was learnt. It wasn't quite the result that we were hoping for, but there will be plenty more opportunities in the future. I'm so proud of him for getting to this point.
And where do I start with Mitch. Wow, he was just completely awesome. After lying second overnight, he went on to jump a super classy double clear just with 9.2 time penalties to add, finishing on an overall score of 51.80 to come 7th out of 72.
He has started this year a completely different horse and is really ready to start upping his game. He'll have a couple of easy weeks now to give him some time to chill and recover after a busy start to the season.
Casper and I are off to Inter County Dressage to represent Team London then he will start his little holiday.
With the big boys on holiday, this will give me a few weeks to really focus on my youngsters.
I would like to thank my Mum, Dad, Amy and Lisa who come to every event to help and support me, and to Juliet Cottey who has been my rock and ultimate book of knowledge over the years.
Keysoe Inter County Dressage
Another full on weekend, but this time it was the British Dressage Inter County Challenge being held at Keysoe. It was fabulous to be asked to represent Team London at the Inter County Challenge. Casper (Ghost Town GT) was amazing, riding two lovely consistent tests, I was very proud of him. As a partnership, we came 7th overall, which I was happy about. Our team of 12 riders came second overall, being beaten by one point.
Thank you again to Adam Smyth and Kim Ratcliffe for the training and for the experience.
