Saracen Horse Feeds is looking for an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Manager to lead and enhance all aspects of health, safety and environmental across our manufacturing and retail operations.

Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will play a key role in shaping our safety culture, ensuring legal compliance, managing risk, and supporting operational excellence. About the Role

As Health & Safety Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing robust health and safety systems while partnering closely with operational teams to ensure safety is embedded into every aspect of the business.

You will lead compliance initiatives, conduct audits and risk assessments, oversee training programmes, investigate incidents, and drive continuous improvement across the site.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety Leadership

·     Develop, implement, and maintain health andsafety policies, procedures, and management systems.

·     Champion a proactive safety culture throughemployee engagement and visible leadership.

·     Ensure compliance with all relevant UK health,safety, and environmental legislation.

·     Monitor regulatory changes and implementimprovements where required.

Operational Support & Strategy

·     Partner with the Head of Operations to alignsafety objectives with business goals.

·     Provide expert guidance on operational planning, projects, and change management.

·     Monitor safety performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

·     Support the development of site-wide strategies that enhance wellbeing, compliance, and operational performance.

Risk Management & Compliance

·     Conduct risk assessments, inspections, andaudits across manufacturing, warehouse, packing, and retail environments.

·     Manage contractor safety, including RAMS reviews and permit-to-work systems.

·     Ensure effective hazard identification and control measures are in place.

·     Monitor and report on safety performance metrics.

Training & Employee Engagement

·     Deliver and coordinate inductions, toolboxtalks, and health & safety training.

·     Coach and support managers and supervisors onsafety matters.

·     Promote employee wellbeing and safe working practices throughout the business.

Incident Investigation & Emergency Preparedness

·     Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses.

·     Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.

·     Maintain accurate records and produce reports for senior management.

·     Develop and test emergency response procedures, including fire safety, COSHH, and evacuation plans.

About You

Essential Requirements

·     NEBOSH General Certificate (minimumrequirement).

·     Previous experience as a Health & Safety Manager or in a similar role.

·     Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and compliance requirements.

·     Experience conducting audits, inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations.

·     Excellent communication, training, and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

·     DSEAR qualification or experience.

·     Experience within manufacturing, food production, animal feed, or FMCG environments.

·     Knowledge of food safety standards and manufacturing best practice.
