We have taken a meaningful step toward reducing plastic use with the launch of our Pasture Lick and Gar-Lick in biodegradable packaging. The new containers, now available across the UK and Europe, follow a successful pilot programme and reflect the company’s wider commitment to more sustainable horse feeding practices.
The updated packaging replaces the familiar plastic tubs with a pea-based cardboard material designed specifically for outdoor field use. While durable enough for normal handling, the containers naturally break down over time when exposed to rain and weather. This approach aims to reduce reliance on single-use plastics while also improving safety for horses by avoiding the sharp edges and breakage risks associated with hard plastic tubs.

General Manager John Rawdon-Mogg said ‘the launch of our plastic free horse licks reflects the company’s focus on both environmental responsibility and practical feeding solutions for horses at pasture’.
The biodegradable Pasture Licks are available in 20kg and 10kg sizes, while the Gar-Licks are offered in 10kg. Both products remain unchanged in formulation and continue to provide essential vitamins and minerals for horses, ponies and youngstock in a range of workloads. The Gar-Lick also includes garlic extract to support natural fly resistance.
