Oomph Without The Calories

Case Studies Donna Whitehead 1270

It can be tricky to find the balance between condition and power to perform when you have a good-doer who hold their weight extremely well.

Donna contacted the nutritional team via the feed advice form to ask for help with Fergal’s diet as he lacked oomph and forwardness in his work. Donna had made sure that he had enough variety in his workload so that he was not getting bored and thought a diet change may be the answer.

Our nutritional team suggested feeding a two-part feeding plan of Competition-Fit Mix and Essential Balancer to ensure that Fergal received a balanced diet whilst allowing Donna to tailor the feed according to his weight, condition, and energy levels.

‘I’m so so pleased with the results - he looks amazing (his coat has never been shinier), his weight is under control (got to be careful with cobs!) and he has so much more oomph when we’re training and competing! He looks like a totally different horse and I’m over the moon about it’

Two-part feeding plans are ideal for horses and ponies that need their waistline monitoring whilst ensuring that they have energy reserves to be able to train and compete. Balancers provide a base layer of essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and quality proteins in a condensed low-calorie base. Whilst the performance mix provides the energy as and when required.

When feeding a two-part feeding system, you can half the recommended feeding rate of both the balancer and the performance feed providing flexibility. If the workload drops the balancer can be fed at the full recommended rate or alternatively if the energy demands are heightened the full intake of the performance feed can be fed.
