Re-Covery Mash For The Lactating Broodmare.

23.02.2023
Foal Mash

During lactation, a mare’s water intake can increase by up to 70% of what their normal intake might be in order to support milk production. In addition to this, a new-born foal will typically rely completely on the mare’s milk as their only source of fluid, drinking very little water in the first 7-14 days of life. This water demand can mean that the lactating mare can lose considerable volumes of fluid and electrolytes during this time.

Access to water, salt blocks and plenty of quality forage should always be provided, however, supplementing broodmares with our Re-Covery Mash can be beneficial to provide additional support post-foaling. Re-Covery Mash contains a blend of ’Super-Fibres’, known for their superior digestibility, plus a source of electrolytes to aid re-hydration. The super fibres help to ‘top up’ the broodmare’s fibre and water intake and, together with electrolytes, helps to maintain optimum hydration and thirst response.

Furthermore, the mash contains additional sources of Vitamin E, as well as a live yeast to provide further digestive support. Mares which are supplemented with Vitamin E may demonstrate increased passive transfer of antibodies to their foals, helping to again provide further support in the development of the young horses' immune system.
